Case study: Tipping, Kiwi News

Kiwi News is a community-curated crypto news website, much like a crypto version of Hacker News. It's a fantastic place to find high quality crypto content and pick up the alpha of what's happening in the industry.

Kiwi wanted a way in which their readers could reward and incentivise community members who were submitting interesting content. To do this, they used Dawn Pay to build tipping functionality:

Kiwi tipping

This allows Kiwi readers to tip and reward contributors whose content they are enjoying. It's incredibly slick, low friction and feels fun to support those creators whose work you enjoy!

The tips themselves are small payments ($0.10, $0.25, $1.00) of USDC USDC or ETH made across an Ethereum L2 payment rail.

The impact so far...​

As of now:

  • 140 tips paid
  • Average tip value of $1.53
  • Kiwi reports that the engagement of creators who receieved tips has gone up!
